A Palestinian youth was killed by Israeli fire on Friday during clashes on the Gaza Strip border that saw thousands of Palestinians demonstrating against the Israeli blockade, according to the Palestinian health ministry.
The ministry reported the death of Mohammed al-Jarouh, 16, in eastern Gaza on Friday evening. It said 40 more Gazans had been injured so far.
Though Hamas declared earlier in the day that the protests were entering their 39th consecutive week, this is only the sixth friday in a row that Gazans have flocked to the border following a ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and Hamas in November.
Since March 30, at least 236 Palestinians, including 50 members of Hamas, and two Israeli soldiers have been killed during the weekly "Great March of Return."

protests often turned violent, with Palestinians launching explosive balloons from Gaza towards Israel, causing great damage to fields adjacent to the border, as well as damaging the security fence and throwing explosive devices at Israelis soldiers.
In November, Hamas and Israel agreed on a ceasefire after a major flare-up which later saw Avigdor Liberman resign as Israel's defense minister. Liberman accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of being soft on the Islamist group.
The protests this Friday were relatively small compared to demonstrations that occurred before the ceasefire agreement, where, at their peak, tens of thousands of Gazans participated.
