Russia Sends Clear Letter To United States. Gowidenews Reporting
Washington, on Dec 3 (Gowidenews) Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoli Antonov said that it is time for the two nations to face their differences over nuclear arms control and other security issues.
In a speech on Thurdsay at Princeton University, the diplomat noted the importance of President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin to meet to discuss nuclear ntrol and the INF treaty.
After briefs exchanges at the G20 Summit in Buenos Aires, where efforts to halt the trade war between China and the US played a leading role, both dignitaries should seek such security agreements, analysts say.
Trump claims that Moscow allegedly violated the INF, and threatened a withdrawal and an increase in the arms race despite a possible reduction in the Pentagon's budget for next fiscal year.
In this context, spokesman Dmitri Peskov said that Moscow expects to receive more detailed explanations from Washington, while pointing out that if the US withdraws from the pact, his country will be forced to take measures to ensure its security.
Leaders from the two major military powers are committed to preserving the agreement in force until 2021 with the possibility of a five-year extension, which essentially contains joint non-proliferation understandings and limits the number of international ballistic missiles, submarine-based ballistic missiles, nuclear bombers and nuclear warheads deployed.
The two countries are expected to solve their differences after the suspension of a Trump-Putin meeting in Buenos Aires last week over an incident between Russian and Ukrainian ships, after the latter violated Russia's territorial waters, which has served as a justification for the White House to curb the talks.
State Department spokesman Robert Palladino said on Thursday that they will continue to demand that Russia return the ships and crew to their neighbor to open the talks.
